Middle East Sewage and Draining Services (MESDS, a division of
Middle East Foundaiton Group founded with an objective of providing dewatering
services to its clients in the Middle East Region.
The object of groundwater dewatering and control is to prevent an
excavation below the natural water table and to achieve a groundwater control
policy at the construction sites using dewatering techniques in order to
maintain as safe and stable working environment as the excavation is in the dry,
nevertheless, preventing water pressure from causing damages to foundation
formation level(s). In general this can be achieved by physical blocking (e.g.
Cut-Off Walls) of the excavation area sides (perimeter) and/or by pumping the
groundwater out of that excavation site (e.g. Well Points) forcing the water
table to drawdown. The principal methods of groundwater dewatering and control
used by the department are:
- Cut-off Walls (Diaphragm and Secant Walls)
- One Stage Well Point System
- Two Stage Well Point System
- French Drains System
- Permanent Deep Wells Systems
- Sacrificial Pumps System
- Temporary Deep Well Systems
- Open Sump Pumping
A variety of engineering and technical activities are required to
be practiced for groundwater dewatering and control program. The most
significant practices among those are as follows.
- Mobilization and demobilization of equipment
- Dewatering system(s) installation and commissioning
- Supervision and monitoring during installation and operation of
the dewatering & water table control systems
- Maintenance of the dewatering system(s) and wells development
and rehabilitation
- Pumps Maintenance
- Electricity network connections
- Discharge piping system and disposal points
- Arranging for water discharge NOC’s
- Dewatering system(s) closing down on completion.
The dewatering department is equipped with sophisticated diesel
centrifugal pumps, submersible turbine pumps, pipes and piping network fittings,
well point systems, deep wells components, control board and panels and all
other various accessories.
The department employs highly skilled personnel with long
experience in the UAE dewatering industry.
The design of dewatering system is implemented on basis of site’s
Hydrogeological and boundary conditions. Reliable analytical and computer based
numerical techniques are used to design the dewatering systems in order to
achieve water table control work efficiently.
